Marvellous Maths
In Week 6 , during Maths week, our teachers and tamariki had such fun taking part in our Maths survivor series. There was a lot of team problem solving happening in classes, to decipher the messages each day leading to Friday`s treasure. As well as this, we had to guess how many lollies were in the jar. The winners for this were Rm 4 Max (131); Rm 8 Nina (130); Rm 9 William (130); rm 10 Code (130); Rm 10 Harlee-Rae (130); Rm 13 Abigail (132); Rm 15 Tarra (132)
At Friday`s dress up assembly there were amazing outfits on display and these were the lucky winners drawn out of the box for a Maths prize : Rm 1 Mani; Rm 2 Juni; Rm 3 Carter; Rm 4 Eli; Rm 5 Amos; Rm 6 Indie; Rm 7 Willow; Rm 8 Levi; Rm 9 Aufa; Rm 10 Xavier; Rm 11 Terri; Rm 12 Aeran; Rm 13 Finn; Rm 14 Kacey and Rm 15 Laken. Congratulations everyone! And finally, a big shout out to Mike and Katrina for organising Maths week for us.

Outdoor Learning space- project update
We are excited to share an update on our Ngahere Outdoor Learning Space. This project will provide a special opportunity for our tamariki and teachers to learn within the ngahere, furthering our commitment to environmental education and kaitiakitanga.
With the concept design complete, we are now in the final stages of planning and compliance. We anticipate this unique space will be underway soon and become a meaningful part of our curriculum from 2026.
We would also like to thank our community for your support with fundraising towards this project. The picture below shows the concept design. We are looking forward to having this space, set to support learning and kaitiakitanga from 2026.

Chess Success
Welbourn entered two teams into the Taranaki Primary and Intermediate Chess competition held in Oakura on Friday 22 August. There was a total of 19 teams and team A came 3rd, which was a fantastic result. Both teams should be very proud of their efforts and a special shout out goes to Amrish Khanolkar for the time and energy he puts in to preparing our students for these events and his weekly tuition here at Welbourn.

QUIZATHON
Hopefully you have been talking about and learning the facts for our general knowledge quiz which is happening this term to raise funds for our outdoor learning space. When you and your child decide how many lists- may be one or it may be two or it may even be three, that will tell you how many questions your sponsors are willing to sponsor. Or they can simply pledge a donation. The Home and School account details are as follows;
Welbourn Home and School Association 15-3957-0043879-00.
We really appreciate your support and hope this creates some fun conversations at home. Please find the question sheets below in case your child has misplaced theirs. The two classes with the most collected will be acknowledged with pizza lunch (see poster below). The children will have their QUIZATHON completed at school by Friday 5 September and will be able to share how they got on.

TERM 4 & TERM 1 2026 KEY DATES

Board Election - Time to vote !
A friendly reminder to vote for our Board Members. The link for voting has been emailed to all our whānau.
Attendance update

We are pleased to celebrate the improvement we have seen in attendance across our school this year. Regular attendance is vital for learner progress, wellbeing, and connection — every day at school really does make a difference. Ngā mihi to our whānau for supporting tamariki to be at school and ready to learn.
While we are encouraged by these improvements, we also want to be open about ongoing challenges. There are still a small number of ākonga whose attendance sits in the concerning range of 60–80% for the year to date. These individual cases are being closely monitored by both the Leadership Team and the Ministry of Education, as regular attendance is key to ensuring equitable outcomes for all learners. We do acknowledge that increased illness has had a part to play and impacted our tamariki and whānau.
The Ministry of Education expects attendance to sit ideally between 85–90% across the year. If you would like an update on your child’s attendance record, please contact their classroom teacher, who will be happy to share this with you.
Together we can continue to support our tamariki to build positive habits and make the most of every learning opportunity.
Daffodil Day- Remember to wear yellow and/or green tomorrow!
